Employing a variety of analog and digital synthesizers, samplers, guitars and vocals, Isaac’s music blends elements of minimalism, experimental pop, kosmische, ambient and experimental jazz. Structured songs and free improvisation fold together during Isaac’s live performances, blurring the line between past and present sonic curiosities.
In 2025, Isaac self-released his debut album, A Pasture, Its Limits, and toured the West Coast and the Midwest. He frequently performs around Los Angeles and currently plays in a trio with Nicole McCabe and Dustin Wong.
“An adventurous electroacoustic artist working in the tradition of Terry Riley and Laurie Spiegel, Isaac Sherman combines the refracted glow of L.A.’s ambient jazz scene with more tactile synth excursions. Though adroit at loop-based synth improvisation, Sherman has turned to tighter structures and more definite rhythms for his first proper album. Though its name suggests a concern with boundaries and demarcations, A Pasture Its Limits finds ways to make the territory it stakes out feel expansive if not endless…” -- Aquarium Drunkard

Isaac’s filmmaking work is informed by direct engagement with the medium; dissecting frames, manipulating and obscuring the lens/camera, rephotographing, and hand-processing. He focuses largely on his immediate surroundings, preferring subjects and topics that feel inherently close.
His work has screened at festivals including the Ann Arbor Film Festival, Prismatic Ground (NYC), Light Field (San Francisco), Engauge Film Festival (Seattle), Chicago Underground Film Festival, Crossroads (San Francisco), Milwaukee Underground Film Festival and internationally, including festivals in Spain, Germany, Argentina, Iceland, Taiwan and Colombia.
